As we are all well aware that education is quickly being shifted to a digital space. Over the past few years, especially during the pandemic, the shift towards a digital classroom has been significant. Within one blink of the eye, we are all on zoom and learning how to use digital spaces for collaboration. I really thought that through a digital classroom I would no longer have to participate in group projects and or discussions but here we were put into break out rooms. Overall, pedagogy isn’t just about teaching, its about knowledge and how we use that knowledge. So within critical digital pedagogy, to supports how digital platforms can support more interactive and collaborative learning experiences. Thats why the word critical is so emphasizes in critical digital pedagogy. The word “Critical” functions as a disciplinary approach and makes you reflect on the societal impact this approach may have. I believe critical digital pedagogy just as other teaching approaches will always begin with student centered ideologies. The needs of the student, as well the the needs of the teachers will always come into play. Whether the classroom takes place online or in person, compassion, critical thinking, different voices, and lived experiences are all very important in learning within every environment. Critical digital pedagogy is not about using the newest apps or platforms just for fun. It’s about using technology to connect people, spark conversation, and make learning more personal and inclusive. This approach opens doors for discourse amongst many platforms and also many countries. As a student who is always learning and their knowledge is evolving, this pedagogical approach will also bring teacher-student relationships closer. As students knowledge grow, teachers knowledge grows as well. As Freire discussed the banking method, teachers should take that method and use it themselves as well. They should take knowledge from their students and learn from them as well.
