Instructors are so afraid to have ChatGPT take over their classrooms and the minds of their students. I’m gonna be honest, I do not intend to ever to ChatGPT for educational reasons but when it first started getting popular, my curious mind obviously wanted to check out what all the buzz was about. I concluded that it is very similar to Siri. Matter of fact, I feel like I can hear Siri’s voice when ChatGPT is writing something out. Anyways, I do believe AI can be a beneficial tool in our writing, more in the sense of using it to see if your sentence makes sense. But in order to come up with an original sentence with your own deep thoughts, thats not happening. Similarly, in Principles for the Postsecondary Teaching of Writing writing cannot be formed without Sound Writing Instruction. From what I understood was that this practice emphasizes “Reading/writing as social, cultural, political, and community based acts”. Which is true because you cannot write if their is no connection to some kind of identity, culture, language or world. Which also brings me to my next point: I don’t think AI can critically think. I agree AI can analyze a text but it will lack the ability to formulate new ideas, new challenging questions that will help understand the material, and figure out patterns. That is why I agree with the section called WPA Outcomes Statement for First-Year Composition (3.0).  At first I was a bit perplexed at the word “Outcome” but then I started to focus on it and I think I started to understand. I am assuming that this is the intended “Goal” and “Outcome” of post-secondary students who take an introductory English course. For example, they should be able to critically think, have rhetorical knowledge, process, compose new questions and read efficiently by the end of their term. I don’t remember much from my freshman year of undergrad but I do recall taking a writing intensive course in English and being introduced to college writing. As difficult as it was, it did shape my writing today and inspire me to continue English writing as my career. Despite what a student’s major is, I think it is very crucial to have these skills in every field.
