I guess I will start off by saying that this was a long awaited post. I had it hand written but never posted it for the literal first class but here it is now. When I initially started reading this article, I started becoming slightly triggered. This topic brought many memories as an undergrad that I wish I can forget. As fine arts students, many individual’s look past our hard work and passion. I’ve noticed that many people truly believe that studying English is the easy way out because “Everyone can read” or that “Everyone can write”. When in reality there are far more complexities than following the 5 paragraph essay and doing a book report. However, when it comes t different fields such as science, history, or engineering, a major component of their work has to do with writing. Aside from field work, experiment’s, and case study, a lot of students struggle to formulate coherent sentences. And in that field of work, making sense in what you say is pertinent in the work. Which is why Writing Across the Curriculum is considered a “social process” because students all across education will have the ability to attain critical thinking skills if they are encouraged to develop writing skills. At the end of the day writing helps students, especially myself put my thought’s into words. Deep social issues that I feel strongly about have been put into words because I can’t seem to find the confidence to ever speak about it in person. I think it is quite sad to see educators fighting for this pedagogy to be used in all courses because you would think by now society would view writing and English as a a complex subject. Writing has the opportunity to open doors in many fields, and writing is such a beneficial tool to have in our day and age.
