Brooke and Grabill
As I read Brooke and Grabill’s text, this quote has stuck out to me. “…The impact of technology on the making of meaning has never been more visible, socially and culturally.” This made me think of the different writing media that are now online and easily accessible. Media such as Instagram, X, Facebook, and TikTok, and made me take a step back and think “Wow”. The way that I had taken this quote was more people nowadays are using technology and more people have access to this technology (even at a younger age) and it can connect people socially and culturally. You can email someone from halfway across the world with any issues. People can post something on TikTok here in the United States and people from Europe can see it. You can also order something online and have it delivered pretty much anywhere in the world.
Duffy’s Approach
Another thing I would like to highlight is John Duffy’s text where he emphasizes how “writing involves ethical choices”. I would agree with this statement. Every writer has a designated audience. Not everyone is going to love the same writer. This is because of different views and biases. When writing you have to take into consideration your audience and who you are writing to whether it be on a blog post or you are making a speech to the White House.
To put it to life, say someone has a food review blog and they review all of the newest and most trendy restaurants in New Jersey. This blogger has millions of people subscribed to their blog and reading their posts. Then, one day the blogger decides to write about how he went to a waterpark and rode on the tallest waterslide in the world. Yes, the story might be interesting, but that is not what his blog is about or what his readers want to read. In other words, people may read your writing because it interests them. Once you gain a following or an audience, you kind of have to stick to that same theme or style of writing.
